Sauron was not a flaming giant eye after he was defeated in the Second Age.
He had a body, as described by Gollum as "only having four fingers on his black hand".

He sat on the uppermost chambers of Barad-dûr (his Dark Tower) and used a Palantir extracted from Minas Morgul to see all of Middle-Earth (and to communicate with Saruman, also in possession of a Palantir). But he could not see all of Middle-Earth at the same time...

I decided to draw him on top of Barad-dûr with his Palantir, as he is described doing so in the books. I drew this using a 3d model for pose references that I downloaded. The model was not a 100% correct depiction of how he appears in the movie (99% correct, though) and is, of course, made of polygons, which don't create very smooth surfaces. I corrected that while drawing. He also has many runes on his body, which will be added on a colored version coming soon.
